Many teachers integrate technology into their classrooms to help enhance their teaching abilities and bring more knowledge to their students as efficiently as they can. Though technology can be extremely helpful with learning programs, writing papers, creating slide shows, etc. there are some students who have difficulty using technology due to disabilities they may have whether they be physical or learning disabilities. For students who may have physical disabilities such as being unable to view a monitor or use a standard mouse they can have some assistance with magnified screens, text-to-speech software or possibly braille printers. These students can also use voice recognition software or a trackball or joystick if they are unable to use a standard mouse. Students with learning disabilities on the other hand such as a student with dyslexia, can use spell check or a speech recognition software to enhance their writing. Students with other learning disabilities can also make use of productivity tools to help make their computing easier. I have personally never used a program to help me with the use of technology due to any type of disability nor have I ever seen a peer of mine use one so my experience is basically nonexistent but I would love to learn and experience more with them in order to satisfy any needs one of my future students may have.

I have used technology in my educational life for as long as I can remember and believe it has very much so enhanced that experience. Therefore, I definitely see myself using technology in my professional life just as often. Teachers are regularly expected to upload grades online as well as communicate with students, parents, co-workers, etc. through online emails, and create presentations to present to students for lecture on a regular basis. I feel I will be equipped and skilled enough to complete tasks such as these and believe I will succeed in the world of technology.

I had never before heard of a WebQuest prior to being assigned to create one so that gave me a rocky start to the assignment but once I better understood the concept, I feel I really enjoyed creating one. I had previously made a website for a class my first semester as a college student and thankfully remembered some of the basics to creating one efficiently through weebly.com. I carefully followed instructions as well as got some helpful tips from peers and researching about WebQuests online. I feel I can improve on content and better flow of instruction. With practice I am sure I will become better with this in being able to better flow instruction making it as easy as possible for any student to use. I loved the concept of this assignment and look forward to including this in my future classroom.

Here is my WebQuest....

  1. I agree! I never really was exposed to the technologies by any of my classmates, but I am studying to be a special ed teacher so I am sure I will have students who will need and use them in my future career so it was really neat to be talking and learning about them in this class! Also love your WebQuest!! I think it turned out so nice, and it was neat that you had previously done something similar and were able to apply those skills to this assignment!!

I have learned so much from this class that I will definitely be using in other classes as a student and in my own that one day I will be facilitating. Although I have learned so much there is always so much more to add to your knowledge. I would love to learn a lot more about excel because I know very basic functions and I know there is so much deeper content that I can get into that could be so useful. I think it could be greatly useful in keeping grades and other info that is important for me in my future class as an educator.

Open education is a movement focusing on providing many resources, tools and practices free of legal, and financial barriers allowing individuals to use, share and adapt content digitally. Giving those with limited resources and financials a chance to enhance their teaching and learning abilities with more available up to date information. I have personally in the past used Khan Academy an example of an open education source to supplement my own learning abilities. With this source people can have an extra resource of teachings to help motivate their learning and gain quality educational practices for free. Khan Academy provides educational content in areas such as math, science, computing, arts & humanities, economics and even test prep. Open content is content available to anyone for free and gives the person the freedom to retain, reuse, redistribute, revise, and remix the content without the fear of invading on copyrighted content. A flipped classroom is a new concept and approach to teaching and learning. In a flipped classroom instead of the classic instruction in class time and homework to practice while at home a teacher can decide to flip their classroom to where the students access instruction and lessons at home and practice their work while in the classroom with the teacher. When using this technique and style of instruction the student has more useful time and access to their teachers with videos first while at home then again in the classroom giving more options with more purpose learning. I believe this can help students more especially since the number of students going home and returning with no homework done is increasing. The digital divide has to do with the lack of access people have to technology who may not be as privileged as others and may not have as much access to technology as others. Without access to technology there may be students who get put behind being unable t...
