ELA standards are standards set by the state for English language arts & literacy in history/social studies, science, and technical subject. There are tons and tons of different standards set under many different subject areas but one that particularly stood out to me was to use a smartboard in your classroom to teach your lesson. I do pretty well with technology and have used smartboards since my middle school years, so I feel this gives me enough experience to not be nervous to use them in my classroom.

CPALMS is a resource for educators to use specifically for those in Florida laying out Florida standards, lesson plans, videos, games, curriculum planning tool, and more. I would most definitely use the tool kits with the standards laid out for the teacher this would help ensure that I meet all standards necessary to teach my little ones exactly what they need to learn within that year to go on to higher grade levels and learn more. Also, along with the list of standards there are some recourses that come along with each one such as a lesson plan which could be extremely helpful.

Creating my newsletter, I learned so much and got great practice on Microsoft Word such as using two columns in a page and adding breaks in the page to start new sections of my newsletter. I was able to get creative with layouts, colors, fonts, and even my writing which was very fun. I also learned about hyperlinks and how to add them to text without changing the text instead  of just writing the whole weblink in the page, I’ve always wondered how others did  this so I feel very accomplished learning this function knowing it will come in great use for the future. In the future I will try keeping the information to more important things the parents will really need to focus on and remember maybe highlighting those parts in their own section and maybe adding a section on student behavior or something similar to that. I will definitely be using this in my classroom one day I think it is a great way to get information to parents on a regular basis. This is how my newsletter came out…

  1. I loved having smart boards in my classrooms growing up as well!! I would love to have one in my future classroom because I found them so useful for so many different things! Also, loved how your newsletter came out!! I liked the column feature as well! I always saw people using it and never really implemented it in anything, but I loved using it for the newsletter!!

I have learned so much from this class that I will definitely be using in other classes as a student and in my own that one day I will be facilitating. Although I have learned so much there is always so much more to add to your knowledge. I would love to learn a lot more about excel because I know very basic functions and I know there is so much deeper content that I can get into that could be so useful. I think it could be greatly useful in keeping grades and other info that is important for me in my future class as an educator.

Open education is a movement focusing on providing many resources, tools and practices free of legal, and financial barriers allowing individuals to use, share and adapt content digitally. Giving those with limited resources and financials a chance to enhance their teaching and learning abilities with more available up to date information. I have personally in the past used Khan Academy an example of an open education source to supplement my own learning abilities. With this source people can have an extra resource of teachings to help motivate their learning and gain quality educational practices for free. Khan Academy provides educational content in areas such as math, science, computing, arts & humanities, economics and even test prep. Open content is content available to anyone for free and gives the person the freedom to retain, reuse, redistribute, revise, and remix the content without the fear of invading on copyrighted content. As...

Students now use many different software’s as technology is such a big part of their education process. I am personally one of those students who has used many different software’s each with many different purposes. One I used in high school is called Khan Academy it has video tutorials and practice problems that help students with many different school subjects. This program really helped me get the practice I needed to fully understand topics being taught in class in order for me to succeed and pass my classes. Because I have tried this software myself and know it can really help students succeed, I would most definitely have my students use it. Another program I have used especially in college and would have my students use is google drive/doc. This software allows you to easily save, edit and share documents. In the past I have used it to share word documents with others in a group project allowing each of us to edit the document and collaborate without having to ...
