Open education is a movement focusing on providing many resources, tools and practices free of legal, and financial barriers allowing individuals to use, share and adapt content digitally. Giving those with limited resources and financials a chance to enhance their teaching and learning abilities with more available up to date information. I have personally in the past used Khan Academy an example of an open education source to supplement my own learning abilities. With this source people can have an extra resource of teachings to help motivate their learning and gain quality educational practices for free. Khan Academy provides educational content in areas such as math, science, computing, arts & humanities, economics and even test prep. Open content is content available to anyone for free and gives the person the freedom to retain, reuse, redistribute, revise, and remix the content without the fear of invading on copyrighted content. As mentioned earlier this gives those with less opportunities, recourses, and financials a chance to receive up to date quality content to help supplement their learning.

Open educational recourses (OER) is quality content any individual may use in many different ways with provided permission to use them free of charge. An example of these OER’s is the Creative Commons where they can help you give others legal permission to  share your content with the world. You can decide if people can practice the five R’s of OER’s.

    I liked that you mentioned OER's give those with limited income and resources the ability to still grow and enhance teaching without them having to use an extensive amount of funds to do so. It gives teachers amazing opportunities to better their classroom and students without costing them money. I also like the example you used, Creative Commons, that is a great website for educators to use to find a variety of different tools for their classroom.

    Hey Amanda! :) I'm glad you spoke about Khan Academy, because it reminded me of how often I used Open Educational Resources in high school without even realizing. So many informative and free youtube channels, like CrashCourse and ACDC Economics, helped a ton of students. They're necessary for students to use in the class and also at home, while studying. Teachers love OERs too, because they encourage new perspectives on the same subject, and this way students can grasp it easier.

    I really like how you mentioned using Khan Academy in the past. I have used it a lot too and I think that it is a wonderful resource. Education is something that should be available to everyone everywhere! I also like how you mention how useful Creative Commons can be for people who want their content to be shared with others.

    Hey Amanda,
    I used Khan Academy all the time in high school, and my teachers often referred students to it as well when they were struggling. I agree that these Open Educational Resources are very helpful to both students and teachers. Education is becoming something that everybody wishes to attain, and with these resources it makes it easier for everyone to access the information they need to gain quality education.

    Hi Amanda! Khan Academy is an amazing example of an Open Educational resource, and it's definitely one that has helped me over the years! I like how you not only provided a great definition of open content, but also provided an excellent example that can be applied to the classroom and beyond as well.

            I have learned so much from this class that I will definitely be using in other classes as a student and in my own that one day I will be facilitating. Although I have learned so much there is always so much more to add to your knowledge. I would love to learn a lot more about excel because I know very basic functions and I know there is so much deeper content that I can get into that could be so useful. I think it could be greatly useful in keeping grades and other info that is important for me in my future class as an educator.

A flipped classroom is a new concept and approach to teaching and learning. In a flipped classroom instead of the classic instruction in class time and homework to practice while at home a teacher can decide to flip their classroom to where the students access instruction and lessons at home and practice their work while in the classroom with the teacher. When using this technique and style of instruction the student has more useful time and access to their teachers with videos first while at home then again in the classroom giving more options with more purpose learning. I believe this can help students more especially since the number of students going home and returning with no homework done is increasing.
