Hello, my name is Amanda Torres I am twenty-one years old born and raised in Miami, FL. I currently reside in Tallahassee, FL where I attend Florida State University. I am a junior at FSU working towards my bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Sciences and a minor in Education. I plan to teach at the elementary level when I graduate which is something, I have always known I wanted to do. I work a part time job as the manager of Smallcakes Cupcakery Tallahassee, I have worked there since I first moved here for school and absolutely love and enjoy my job along with those I work with.

I would consider my prior experiences with technology as being basic knowledge. I have previously used smartphones, laptops, the internet, Microsoft word, and Microsoft PowerPoint. I started using technology more just around the time of middle school when the schools started enforcing the use of online learning programs such as the one, I used at the time called “Reading Plus”. In high school we continued the use of Reading Plus butt were also required to take at least one online course in order to graduate. This online course required a student to learn the content, take quizzes and tests all online forcing students to become more comfortable with technology. Now in college we use a program called “Canvas” where we can see all our class grades, complete assignments and tests even when the class may not be an online course. I have taken a computer program course in college which taught students the ins and outs of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. I did decently well in the course learning a lot about Word and PowerPoint but wish I could have learned more about excel.

I hope to take much knowledge away from this course especially how I could utilize technology to best benefit my future students. I believe it is very important as an older generation to keep up with our students’ generation and their abilities/advancements in technology. Being able to fully understand the developing technology and how to incorporate it into my lesson plans creating a technological environment.

  1. Hello Amanda, nice to meet you! I am also a minor in Education and find it interesting that you are focused in teaching elementary. I am a current intern for Teach For America that is one of the amazing educational programs that helps the transition to becoming a teacher. I am also not as familiar with Technology and only used what is required from the school. Technology is very important and also expanding in society. So this course should help with both our knowledge of program softwares and how it can build our career resume. Good luck with the course!

I have learned so much from this class that I will definitely be using in other classes as a student and in my own that one day I will be facilitating. Although I have learned so much there is always so much more to add to your knowledge. I would love to learn a lot more about excel because I know very basic functions and I know there is so much deeper content that I can get into that could be so useful. I think it could be greatly useful in keeping grades and other info that is important for me in my future class as an educator.

I found a website actually created by a past teacher of mine and found lots of cool elements to it. First of I love that she calls her classroom “The Happy Room” creating an inviting positive space for her students. She has separate pages for each levels of classes she teaches including, AP Macroeconomics/Government, Honors/Gifted American History, and Honors/Gifted Economics/Government. Under these pages she includes sections explaining what they did the past week in class, homework assignments, important due dates, important links for homework, and any upcoming events. She also includes separate pages for Scholarship/College Information, an About Me, and Contact Me. I believe these are great additional pages with information that may not be specific to the class or its content but can still be helpful to a student.    https://mrslowd.educatorpages.com/ I relate this blogging experience to past class assignments called discussion boards. In these disc...

Open education is a movement focusing on providing many resources, tools and practices free of legal, and financial barriers allowing individuals to use, share and adapt content digitally. Giving those with limited resources and financials a chance to enhance their teaching and learning abilities with more available up to date information. I have personally in the past used Khan Academy an example of an open education source to supplement my own learning abilities. With this source people can have an extra resource of teachings to help motivate their learning and gain quality educational practices for free. Khan Academy provides educational content in areas such as math, science, computing, arts & humanities, economics and even test prep. Open content is content available to anyone for free and gives the person the freedom to retain, reuse, redistribute, revise, and remix the content without the fear of invading on copyrighted content. As...
